Pennsylvania DUI Offender Uses His Brother's ID

|

In Reading, Pennsylvania, it is reported that a man was stopped for suspicion of driving under the influence months ago.  When police asked to see the man's identification, he showed them his brother's ID instead of his own.

At the time of the incident, his brother was away on his honeymoon.  When his brother returned from his vacation, the 42 year old was arrested by police for DUI in Reading.  The brother, Bernard Marrero, sought help from a defense attorney who sorted out the situation with police.  Once the mix-up was explained, police went after Marrero's 39 year old brother, Samuel Marrero.

Samuel Marrero was placed under arrest on September 28th.  At this time, he remains in Berks County prison for his drunk driving offense.

Law enforcement said that at the time of his DUI stop, Samuel Marrero gave them his brother's date of birth and social security number.  The stop occurred on August 6th.

Chief Douglas Knoblauch of Berks Township said that police often hear people say, "You've got the wrong person", but in this case, it happened to be true.

Pennsylvania to Increase DUI Enforcement this Sunday

|

While people are encouraged to enjoy the Super Bowl this Sunday, it is advisable that they do not drink and drive, especially in the state of Pennsylvania.

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, it is expected that police patrol units will be in full-force.  They are going to be extremely watchful of the roads both before and after the Super Bowl, and will be ready to make traffic stops for those people they believe are driving under the influence (DUI).  Police agencies in Montgomery County said that, "fans don't let fans drive drunk."

Officials report that during last year's Super Bowl, there were 34 DUI accidents in Pennsylvania.  The crashes occurred on Sunday and carried over into Monday until 6 AM.

This year, law enforcement is hoping that anxious fans will avoid drinking and driving at all costs as DUI accidents are very prevalent during the Super Bowl.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation says that in 2007, there were 525 DUI fatalities throughout the state and a staggering total of 1,491 highway deaths.  Additionally, they report that the state invests over $2.8 million annually into DUI prevention and enforcement.
